05/19/2023Description The City of Norfolk's Department of Human Services is seeking a Family Services Worker II to provide assessments and to develop and implement service plans for vulnerable children and families.
The Family Services Worker II will conduct home visits, maintain case records, and prepare written reports.
The incumbent will be responsible for responding to crisis situations and connecting families to community resources.
Essential Functions Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Provides assessment of family needs, developing and implementing service plans to address the needs of vulnerable children and families.
Performs related duties by conducting home visits, assessing strengths, needs, risk and safety.
Maintains case records, preparing written reports, attending and coordinating service and related meetings.
Responds to crisis situations for children and families to address safety, permanency, and well-being.
Connects families to community resources necessary to address their needs.
Assists families with accessing mainstream benefits (i.
e.
SNAP, TANF Medicaid and Public Housing).
Assists families with housing stability supports and services.
Participates in Family Partnership Meetings.
Authorizes payments as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field and minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia).
Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.
Two (2) years experience in social services.
The ideal candidate will possess:

Family engagement experience.
Case management experience.

This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.

Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply.
