59 PM EasternDescription The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of General Utility Maintenance Supervisor.
This person oversees the maintenance and repair of Norfolk's wastewater system.
Oversees the installation and maintenance of sewer pipelines, sewer line cleaning, and sewer pump stations.
Essential Functions Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Must be capable of leading and supervising multiple crews to include all planning and coordination of the work Oversee yard operations and coordinating vehicles with City Garage Review and approve timesheets and leave requests in Peoplesoft, performance reviews, and daily work assignments Responsible for coordinating and supervising maintenance items for sewer pump stations, sewer line cleaning, and sewer line close circuit televising (CCTV) planning Perform customer service to include investigating issues in detail including desktop research, field research, contacting customer, coordinating with other departments, and following up with citizens.
Review monthly inspection of paving cuts with Senior Supervisors Review Lucity service requests, work orders, and paving requests on a daily basis Provide information to the City Attorney's office to assist with citizen requests or claims Meet daily with respective senior supervisors Supervises employees.
Schedules and assigns daily work to appropriate personnel.
Directs and coordinates divisional personnel on daily tasks and objectives.
Determines the proper materials and equipment to efficiently complete projects in the most economical manner.
Responsible for productivity and for generating work completion reports.
Reviews previous and current projects to ensure that they meet and/or exceed customer expectations and OSHA standards by performing field visits and evaluating feedback from customers, contractors and project reports.
Works with contractors, customers, and other divisions and municipalities to serve customers and resolve complaints and billing issues.
Documents, summarizes daily work performed by field personnel.
Submits sewer overflow report to DEQ.
Promotes safety by training personnel on safety precautions and compiles accident reports monthly.
Ensures subordinates receive necessary training to support a safe and effective work environment.
Offers development opportunities and course material on safety, electronics, pump repairs, pipe installation, employee supervision, customer relations, and computer applications as needed.
Conducts employee performance reviews.
Monitors employee performance on an ongoing basis and addresses performance issues, initiating disciplinary action as needed.
Researches options and makes recommendations regarding equipment repair and purchase.
Responsible for divisional equipment maintenance and repair.
Reviews budget and authorizes requisitions for replacement parts, materials and supplies.
Education/Experience Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature.
Knowledge is generally obtained through advanced study beyond high school, such as junior college, vocational, business, technical, correspondence schools.
More than seven years experience in repair /maintenance of system components, equipment and machinery; three years in supervision.
Additional Information & Requirements OSHA/VDOT specific safety training Valid driver's license.
Additional duty specific training and certification may be required within six months of employment.

Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply.
