Job Duties:
The Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) is an enterprise division within the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) is seeking a Rehabilitation Technology Specialist to provide thorough evaluations of the assistive technology and needs of persons who are blind and vision impaired, including persons with multiple disabilities.
To recommend, develop and implement appropriate solutions to meet individual needs.
To make appropriate modifications to the technology to ensure operation at maximum potential and benefit to the individual.
To provide on-site, remote telephone, teleconference, and e-mail technical support and training as appropriate.
DBVI enables blind or visually impaired individuals to achieve their maximum level of employment, education, and personal independence.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge/Experience - Training or considerable experience in evaluating, recommending, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting personal computer technology and assistive technology that is customized to address individual needs.
Considerable knowledge of assistive technology products for persons with vision and multiple impairments, its appropriate use, application, and operation.
Knowledge of assistive technology products for persons with vision and multiple impairments, its appropriate use, application, and operation.
Proficient in the use of personal computers, computer software, including but not limited to word processing, presentation, teleconferencing applications and providing remote support.
Proficient in providing remote support and guidance via telephone, teleconference systems and remote desktop products.
Skills/Abilities - The ability to evaluate, recommend, install, configure, and troubleshoot personal computer technology and assistive technology to address individual needs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with others who have varying levels technical knowledge and/or comfort.

Preferred
Qualifications:
Training, certifications, equivalent experience and/or training in assistive technology or related fields.
Considerable experience in information systems support, including computer troubleshooting, repair, installation, networking, and maintenance operations.
Public, front-facing customer service experience.
