Part-Time Human Resources Assistant

Norfolk Public Schools, VA Norfolk Public Schools, VA Norfolk, VA Norfolk, VA Part-time Part-time $15 - $20 an hour $15 - $20 an hour Part-Time and Temporary; Non-Exempt; 20-25 Hours/Week General Responsibilities This position is responsible for providing administrative support activities for the Department of Human Resources.
Education and Experience An associate degree and 3-5 years of related human resources, administrative, and customer service experience is desired; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Job Functions Inputs all employment data into the Human Resources/Payroll System as directed.
Carries out the process of applicant tracking by receiving applications, ensuring data entry accuracy, and electronically processing applications for future reference.
Processes all personnel action reports for Human Resources Generalist's signature.
Greets internal and external customers.
Ensures that prospective employees undergo a complete background check that includes initiating fingerprint paperwork that will be forwarded to reviewing agencies.
Ensures drug testing paperwork is initiated by employees.
Ensures TB test is up to date.
Ensures social services paperwork is initiated and forwarded to reviewing agencies.
Incumbent must review returning results to determine acceptability of candidate prior to approval for further processing.
Maintains an electronic file on all employees which consists of preparing relevant paperwork Scans all incoming paperwork into the computer and indexes based on employee social security number and type of paperwork specific to that employee.
Manages the electronic document system to ensure accuracy of scanned and indexed documents.
Schedules and maintains a calendar of prospective applicants.
Manually documents all personnel management aspects of the employee's history by completing a personnel action report that consists of retrieving established codes that pertain to each personnel action (over 100 personnel actions).
Accurately records personnel actions electronically that determine pay codes, and terminations.
Assists human resources staff in conducting recruiting functions; including attending those functions when needed.
Responds to telephone and/or written inquiries from administrators and current and prospective employees regarding the activities for which responsible.
Conducts new employee orientation by ensuring employee packages are prepared; to include assisting with new employee orientation as requested.
Utilizes a variety of office equipment, including information system/computer technology, to carry out human resources essential functions; to include filing hard copies of data, updating computer files, and purging files.
Schedules interviews for applicants and conducts initial screening interviews, as assigned.
Performs other duties as required by the supervisor.
Primary Location HUMAN RESOURCES Salary Range $15.
00 - $20.
00 / Per Hour Shift Type Part-Time.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
