Every
day, our Supervisory
Immigration Services Assistants supervise a staff of
subordinates responsible for reviewing applications and petitions for
immigration benefits; monitor work in progress, track statistical data, and
prepare statistical and narrative reports; prepare and issue written
instructions and procedures on established policies, special programs, and
complex and non-routine assignments.
This position of SUPERVISORY IMMIGRATION SERVICES ASSISTANT starts at a salary of $43,389.00(GS-08 step 1), to $62,297.00 (GS-09 step 10). Apply for this exciting opportunity to become a member of the

The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity.
As a Supervisory Immigration Services Assistant , you will supervise a staff of subordinates responsible for reviewing applications and petitions for immigration benefits. The nature of the work supports and significantly affects the organization''s operations and objectives, which include providing services to a population of clients comparable to a major portion of a small city or rural county. Other duties may include the following:
Provide technical and administrative support to subordinate staff, which requires coordination and integration of work efforts.
Plan and prioritize work; assign, monitor, and take action, as appropriate, relating to the capability, qualifications and progress of the individuals. Monitor work in progress; track statistical data; and prepare statistical and narrative reports.
Ensure staff acceptance and compliance with USCIS procedures, policies and regulations. Prepare and issue written instructions and procedures on established policies, special programs, and complex and non-routine assignments.
Review, accept, amend, or reject completed work; and appraise performance. Counsel and encourage employees to progress within their job classifications; and recommend disciplinary actions, where necessary. Make selections of employees for the unit.
Perform more difficult and complex phases of applications processing work including expeditious handling of special cases.

GS-8 : You qualify at the
GS-08 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent
to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, which has equipped you
with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must
have experience performing the following duties:

Screening
applications and petitions filed for benefits under the Immigration and
Nationality Act.

Providing
highly technical advice and assistance to the public about immigration and
nationality law and regulations.
GS-9 : In addition to the
requirements at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-9 level if you
possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-8
level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed
to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience
performing the following duties:

Providing
technical and administrative oversight to those who review applications and
petitions for immigration benefits.

Screening
applications and petitions filed for Immigration benefits.

Examining
and reviewing documentation to determine eligibility.

Providing
technical advice about policies, laws and regulations.
Educational Substitution : There is no educational substitution at these grade levels.
Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period : You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.
